ABPT Remote

What is remote physiotherapy?

Over the last 5 years, remote physiotherapy has become much more popular with both patients and clinicans. In short, remote physiotherapy is provided via phone or video call, which can be accessed at a time and location convenient to you.

What are the benefits of remote physiotherapy?

Remote physiotherapy is a convenient, affordible and accessible means of accessing treatment, especially for patients who have many time demands or struggle to travel. You can revieve assessment and treatment from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere convenient to you!

Is remote physiotherapy effective?

In short, yes. There is good evidence that physiotherapists can accurately diagnose most issues via video call and provide appropriate treatment. Whilst there are certain clinical tests that we can't do, and hands on treatments such as massage or joint mobilisations may not be possible, remote physiotherapy can still provide high quality advice, education and exercise based treatment to help you achieve your goals. If there is ambiguity or your physiotherapist has concerns that you might need a face-to-face appointment, you can be booked for an in person session or a referral letter can be written for you to take to your GP or local physiotherapist, in many cases speeding up the recovery process.
